Upham Country House
Description:
Located in downtown Santa Barbara but tucked away in a residential corner, the Country House is part of the Upham Hotel located across the way. This is a beautifully restored country house built in 1898 and although the architecture will take you back in time, the quality of the guest rooms is superb.
All of the 8 guest room feature unique art purchased from a variety of buying trips around the world and lend to the overall character and charm. Although this is considered a B&B, it is not "frilly." You simply feel well taken care of and as though you have stepped through a portal in time to a much simpler century. Each room has its own bath, luxurious robes, ceiling fan, TV/VCR, high quality linens, and wireless internet (no telegraphs!). Many of their rooms offer whirlpool tubs and wood burning fireplaces (again a rarity for the 21st century) and especially for a B&B, the rooms we saw were of good size - a place not only to sleep but to relax and read a good book. Guest rooms reminded us of an English country style - again, not super ornate - just very comfortable and tasteful so that a husband/boyfriend won't feel out of place.
In the rear garden, with a lush lawn and mature trees, you can enjoy a complimentary full breakfast and/or evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. Children under 12 are highly discouraged here - so this is a good opportunity to spend some quiet time together.

- Relax in the gardens and enjoy the tranquilty and serenity as you eat your breakfast or sample the evening hors d'oeuvres.
- Take the easy walk in to downtown and enjoy the theater district or a romantic dinner.
- Rent one of their rooms with whirlpool tub and fireplace and just spend a quiet night at the hotel.
