If you want to be where all of the action is, the Hotel Santa Barbara offers a historical, elegant hotel right on the main street of downtown (State Street). Built in the 1920's, the hotel and its 75 guest rooms was completely refurbished about 10 years ago. Rooms are designed with light colors and floral patterns with blues and yellows predominating. The hotel describes their rooms as having a "California meets French Provincial' style including handcrafted furniture, bright bathrooms with French print shower curtains and Corian countertops". We noticed a lot of artwork reflecting local Santa Barbara scenes which added to the overall charm of this boutique style hotel. King bedded rooms and suites offer two terrycloth robes to use during your stay.
The best feature of this hotel is really its location. If you like to walk and browse the shops, be able to go out to dinner and check out the local nightlife and then roll right back in to the hotel (using an old fashioned elevator with accordian gate - just like in the old movies), this is a great option. Valet parking is available and is relatively cheap at just $7 per day. Although they have quite a mix of guests at this hotel, it would mostly appeal to a younger set of couples looking to truly experience the energy that is Santa Barbara. Room rate includes a continental breakfast served in their lobby.
