Canary Hotel
Description:
Our first stop at this hotel was to their unique top floor pooldeck which, as the second tallest building in downtown Santa Barbara, offers commanding views of the city and the ocean. As the sun began to set, it started to remind us of the feeling you would get while gazing out over an Italian landscape from a private villa. Up on the top floor (only available to guests), is a large tiled area with giant fireplace, whirlpool and swimming pool. Plants were brought in from the Canary Islands (hence the name - the hotel architcture was conceived out of this region as well).
Venture back downstairs to the lobby and the guest rooms, and the property has a "non hotel" residential feel to it. And from the hotel, you can walk to many of Santa Barbara's exclusive shops, restaurants and to the beautiful beaches. Although the hotel caters to a wide range of people, you are sure to find a "fun and fabulous" crowd frequenting the restaurant and lounge with plenty of tables for two and a high energy bar to keep the evening interesting.
Guest rooms feature handsome dark wood furnishings, four poster beds, hardwood floors, flat screen t.v.'s, bath robes, DVD players (including Yoga instruction and mat), rain showers and gorgeous tubs. It really has a simple, elegant and somewhat relaxed contemporary feel to it. Aside from the yoga mat, other interesting extras include a mini-bar with healthy and "bad" snacks, real coffee mugs and a small collection of books in each room.
